This project tries to find a way of rethinking a heritage urban space in terms of sonic memories and enhance the mnemonic effects (the action of recalling memories from the past) in the space via sounds.

The principle idea of this intervention comes from a problematic: What is the definition of memory in the actual super-diverse Brussels? What are the memories brought by the immigrants and what are those which have been taken out by migrants? Are the echoes of the past memories still present? Besides, how can we think of past sounds as future treasures to be kept? Is there a way to remix these sounds with the present?

How can we re-think a heritage urban bridge with the help of a sonic intervention in order to create a heterochronic space in order to create Anamnesis effects? How can a historical passage be a performative memory place?

Some of the methodes used are:

• Exploring the sound effect on the mind and its relation to memory (mnemonic effects)
• Site Sound Analysis: Discovering principle sound sources and determining their sonic effect on the mind.
• Sound Archive Analysis (with the help of BNA): Exploring the sounds from the past including Narrative history, events, field recordings
• Architectural Analysis in terms of enhancing sonic mnemonic effects

in the aim of:

• Creating a soft and modular intervention for further urban integration to be placed as a reflection mirror enabling the capture of the present sound as a past echo as well as the diffusion of old sounds to create a heterochronic space.
• Defining the interstitial spaces creating Sound Follies for new sound/visual urban experiences.
